Allegra McEvedy helps a primary class make healthy food

Founder of the Leon healthy fast-food-chain and author of Economy Gastronomy; Allegra McEvedy MBE, introduces a wary group of primary school children to the joys of bran. Having trained dozens of young cooks in restaurants over the years, Allegra and teacher Sally Keck make a batch of banana muffins with the schools cookery club. The muffins contain bran, a healthy ingredient that might prove unappetising to children, but instead Allegra gets the class cracking eggs, mashing bananas, and creaming butter and sugar. The bran is just another ingredient, and class are swept along with Allegra's friendly, attentive teaching and her energetic pace. Finally, Allegra gives her closing thoughts on getting children to eat healthy food at a young age.

How differences in appearance can trigger bullying episodes

A 16-year-old girl talks about the bullying that ensued as a result of her haircut when she started secondary school, in this PSHE lesson and assembly starter for primary and secondary pupils. In this video, a seemingly well-behaved and well-performing school student, describes the emotional distress he felt as his Asperger's syndrome caused him to struggle socially at school.

A ten year-old learns how to budget for a family day out

This programme follows ten year-old Catriona on her financial journey as she saves up and budgets for a day out for her parents and best friend. She starts by doing jobs around the house and for her Mum in her gift shop. In return for this she receives pocket money which she puts into her building society account. Catriona learns about the benefits of saving as she sees the interest add up. Once Catriona has worked out how much she has to spend she can set about planning the day out. With the help of her friend Kiran, Catriona researches the options and prices up potential trips. They soon learn how quickly money disappears when they factor in the costs of transport, refreshments and incidentals. On the day they continue to make decisions about methods of payments and the availability of saver tickets which enables them to make their money go slightly further. Discover two schools' creative anti-cyberbullying strategies

This KS2-KS4 lesson-planning resource shows the impacts of cyberbullying and how children can become cyberbullies. It supports Every Child Matters and addresses human health and safety, and personal and social skills. See a drama played out in a PSHE lesson at Bradon Forest School, Purton, depicting a cyberbully accused of posting a picture online without consent. ICT is also used to help create storyboards. At St Mary's C of E Primary School, Purton, the pupils create dramas to learn about cyberbullying, also making lists of their rights and responsibilities when using computers and mobile phones. On hand to provide parents, teachers and pupils with guidance on dealing with cyberbullying is Childnet Education Manager, Ellen Ferguson.

A 14-year-old boy talks about how he was bullied for being different, leading to self-harming, in a short PSHE lesson and assembly starter for primary and secondary pupils. He explains how his preference for singing and dancing, instead of football led to extreme bullying. He refused to attend school and he began self-harming. This short video can be used to begin discussions with pupils on issues including what it means to be different, peer pressure and how stereotypes affect the way pupils judge their classmates.
