Dealing with pupil-teacher relationships in secondary school

A panel of teachers, led by ECM expert Moyra Healy, look at three reconstructed secondary school scenarios, analysing how the teacher-pupil relationship has been handled. The panel discuss the dramatised scenarios from the point of view of both teacher and pupil, considering whether anything could have been done to improve the final outcome. Every day, teachers are faced with new and challenging situations with their pupils; how they deal with each of these relatively small moments can influence long term relationships.

An AST in west London approaches some key requirements of his job

This programme follows Steve Imisson, an AST at Vyners School in west London, to see how he meets some of the key requirements of the job. As an AST Steve is required to partake in innovative teaching in the school, support and advise colleagues within his own school, and help a neighbouring school to overcome some of their difficulties. At Ashton on Mersey School in Manchester, PE teacher Caroline Blakey is being coached as part of the school's routine professional development cycle. In addition the coach, director of sport Aidan Moloney, is being coached on his technique by headteacher Vicky Beer. Watch the coaching process from initial planning stages to the lesson observation. Aidan provides feedback on Caroline's teaching practice, while Vicky comments on Aidan's coaching style.
