As winner of The Guardian Award for Secondary Teacher of the Year in 2005, it's clear that Mike Ullmann has that something extra.
Since the early nineties Mike has been instrumental in transforming Hockerill Anglo European Language College from a struggling school to a showcase institution at the forefront of language teaching in the UK.
Mike's creation of the school's Bilingual Centre means that many subjects are taught in a foreign language. Through this, regular video conferencing and around 70 school trips abroad every year, the children have a genuine confidence in foreign languages.
The school, in Bishop's Stortford, also has a worldwide network of "partner schools" and an impressive range of exchanges, including work experience for pupils abroad.
This programme demonstrates how Mike, with the help of his colleagues, has made a difference to the life of a school and its pupils.
